Truthsy Privacy Policy
Last updated 1 October 2026
Truthsy is a truth-or-dare party game. This policy explains what the app stores, where, and why. Questions: shkrown@gmail.com.
What stays on your phone
These never leave your device:
- Your profile: name, emoji, date of birth, and optionally your gender. Your date of birth is used only on the phone, to confirm you're 18 or older. Gender picks a few extra cards for you and how cards refer to you; you can skip it.
- Players you add to a single-phone game, their personal limits, and scores.
- Custom cards and settings (unless you sign in for cloud sync, below).
- Which cards you've seen or hidden, and your After Dark PIN.
What goes to our servers
Online features use Google Firebase (Authentication, and Cloud Firestore hosted in the EU). When you first use them, Firebase gives your phone an anonymous ID. You only give us your email address if you create an account for cloud sync.
| Feature | What's stored | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Online rooms | The name you join with, your gender if you set it (so the host's phone can pick cards and pronouns), any personal limits you set, whether you opted in to 18+ content, your votes, the cards played and scores. Secret Jar entries are stored only until the host's phone deals them, and are never linked to your name for other players. | Until the host closes the room or hosts another one. Rooms carry a 24-hour expiry date. |
| Account (optional, for cloud sync) | Your email address and, if you sign in with Google, your Google account ID and name. Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication; we never see them. | Until you delete your account. |
| 18+ deck check (optional) | If you unlock the downloadable 18+ decks: your date of birth, linked to the Google or Play Games account you signed in with, so our servers can confirm you're 18 or older before sending those decks. | Until you delete your account. |
| Reports (optional) | If you report a player or a Secret Jar card: the reason you chose, the room code, the reported card text or player name and ID, your anonymous ID, and the time. Only we can read reports. Nobody in the room learns who reported. | As long as we need to review and act on it, and no more than 12 months. |
| Cloud sync (Premium, optional) | Your custom cards and game settings, linked to your account and readable only when you're signed in to it. Not your profile or date of birth. | Until you delete your account. |
Other players in a room see the name, votes and scores you share there. Nobody else can see your account or backup.
Ads
The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. AdMob may collect your device's advertising ID, IP address and device information to show and measure ads. In the UK, EEA and Switzerland we ask for your consent first, and you can choose non-personalised ads. Premium shows no ads. Google's use of data is covered by its policy: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
Purchases
Premium is bought through the App Store or Google Play. They handle payment; we never see your card details. The app only learns whether Premium is active.
Age
Truthsy is for adults: you must be 18 or older to use it, and the app asks for your date of birth to confirm this. The downloadable 18+ decks also need you to sign in with Google or Play Games and confirm your age; our servers refuse those decks to anyone else.
Safety in online rooms
Secret Jar prompts, custom cards and player names are checked automatically for slurs, harassment, explicit content, threats and contact details; anything that fails isn't sent. Hosts can remove a player from their room, and anyone can block a player: blocked players are turned away from rooms you host, and the list of who you blocked stays on your phone. Anyone can report a player or an anonymous Secret Jar card from inside the game. We review reports and may close rooms or block accounts that break our Terms of Use.
Your choices
- Delete everything on your phone by uninstalling the app.
- Leave a room to remove yourself from it.
- Delete your account and backup in the app: menu → Cloud sync → Delete account. You can also ask us to delete it.
- To ask about or delete any other data linked to your anonymous ID, email shkrown@gmail.com.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
